The colors of the ocean, sky and surf blend into a portrait, with bright white, brown, grey and blue tones throughout.
Sand Crab at Kitty Hawk
The sand crab appeared curious, as it crawled from its burrow and approached the camera. It stayed for a minute or so and went on.
Ducks at Dawn
A trio of ducks is silhouetted on the beach at dawn.
Egret in Salt Marsh
A mature egret searches for food in its natural habitat. Egrets stalk prey in salt marshes almost any time of the day. They eat frogs, fish and snakes and other creatures such as crabs.
Rocky Coast at Dawn
The rising sun sends pink light across the ocean and to the shore. Rocks and vegetation reflect the light as morning comes once more.
A small wave approaches shore in the early morning light. Sea grasses wait for its arrival.
Dunes at Dawn
Sand dunes, plants and animals emerge from the darkness of night. Footprints and traces of creatures are seen along the dunes.
Dew on Salt Grass
Salt marshes hold fish, crabs and other creatures, plus a wide variety of plants. Salt grass is among them.
The Old Pier, Wrightsville Beach, NC
The wooden Johnnie Mercer Pier at Wrightsville Beach, NC stood for six decades. Storms and hurricanes shortened its' length. This image shows the pier before its' final destruction in 1996.

The new concrete pier was constructed after several hurricanes and storms destroyed the wooden pier during the 1990's.

Bounty of the Sea I
Each day the ocean deposits items on the beach. Some are natural, others are man-made. This studio composition presents a grouping of natural items + sea glass and the remnant of a brick.

A single leaf is dried by the afternoon sun as it rests on the beach. Where did it come from? How far was its' journey?
Bounty of the Sea III
After a major storm all kinds of debris is found along the beach. Early morning light shows a mixture of natural & man-made items. How long was the diary in the water? Is the writing legible? How far did the gourd travel? Who enjoyed the scotch, and did the same person use the liniment?
Dark Clouds at Dawn
Noctilucent clouds seem to rise from the sea in this image. Tones of blues, grays, white and touches of orange are found from the horizon upward. A mass of sea oats anchors the photograph.
